Is Arizona's New Immigration Law Constitutional?

We have an interesting situation developing in Arizona. Last week, the Arizona legislature passed and the governor signed a law which says, in effect, that the state will work harder to enforce the existing federal immigration laws.

The left is having a cow, of course. They are concerned that enforcing the law is racist.

"Racist." Where have we heard that before?

So the left is now crying "Unconstitutional." It is unconstitutional, according to the left, to merely enforce federal law. The constitution, by the way, does give the government the authority to set and enforce immigration policies.

Now, remember back ... ALL THE WAY BACK .... to about three weeks ago when the Health Care System Destruction Act of 2010. Remember the congressmen who said that the constitution doesn't matter? The only thing that mattered, way back then, was to make sure that all those uninsured citizens who were just dropping dead in the streets from lack of health care, got covered. They AREN'T covered, but we did get health care destruction/reform shoved down our throats. Constitutional or not.

So, now that there is an issue in which the left wants to limit the power of government, the left is crying "foul." We CAN'T ignore the constitution.

Hypocrisy? Thy name is Democrat.

The Joe Wilson Saga Rolls On

There isn't anyone who watches politics who doesn't know who Joe Wilson is and what he did. And after his "outburst" he apologized to Obama, an apology that Obama accepted.

Wilson considered the matter closed. Obama considered the matter closed. Even Pelosi said the matter was closed.

Unfortunately for Wilson, in the world of politics, it just isn't that simple.

House democrats have insisted that Wilson apologize again. To them. Again.

And they are, of course, threatening a slap on the wrist over this "outrage" if he doesn't apologize again.

Why?

Politics, naturally.

It has to be about politics. If it was really about what is right and wrong, there would be a long line of people in front of Wilson waiting for their turn to apologize.

As Michael Steele put it:

"If we are going to march Members down to the well of the House to apologize, Joe Wilson is going to have to get in line behind Nancy Pelosi, who attacked the intelligence community who protects us, Charlie Rangel who cheated on his taxes, Jack Murtha - a walking scandal, and we all know how the Democratic leadership tried to protect William Jefferson. Democrats don't want an apology. They want a side show - something to shift focus away from their government-run experiment on health care."

How true.

Howard Dean: Republicans Are Undermining The Country

Yesterday, Howard Dean, the Chairman of the Democratic Party, said: "This Republican party - this shrinking Republican part - is just determined to undermine President Obama. And unfortunately, you have to undermine the country in order to undermine the president. I think that's too bad."

Funny. He didn't feel that way when George W. Bush was president.

No, Mr. Dean. I don't think that's the case. It is Obama who is undermining the country and its values and traditions (not to mention its economy). Opposing the president is not only patriotic and American, if we want to save our country from the left, it is an absolute necessity.

... And Gov. Mark Sanford

For those of you new to my blog, I talked about so called "Christian Hypocrisy" in this post entitled "Carrie Prejean, Bristol Palin and Christian Hypocrisy." I've yet to decide whether more needs to be said about the Mark Sanford affair. I suspect not, but in case you haven't read that post, I think it's one of my better ones. Simply add Sanford's name to the list, and I don't think the main point of the post changes.

Obama Signs Anti-Smoking Bill

Obama on Monday signed a landmark anti-smoking bill which he said will reduce the number of children who take up smoking and ultimately save American lives.

The bill would give the federal government unprecedented authority to regulate tobacco. The law allows the regulatory Food and Drug Administration to reduce nicotine in tobacco products, ban candy flavorings and block labels such "low tar" and "light." Tobacco companies also will be required to cover their cartons with large graphic warnings.

"Today ... the decades-long effort to protect our children from the harmful effects of tobacco has emerged victorious. Today change has come to Washington," Obama said.

I'll believe that "CHANGE" has come to Washington when he quits firing Inspector Generals, when he starts working toward real bipartisanship, when he stops smoking, and when he stops lying through his teeth.
