Americans Want More Taxes (Stupid Statement Of The Week)

Colin Powell must have won some kind of award from liberals this week. He made the following statement:

"Americans want to pay more taxes for services. Americans are looking for more government, not less."

Somebody inform the politicians. Last election cycle, all of the candidates were running away from more taxes and more government. Granted, the Democrats were pushing for expanded and new specific government programs. But anytime a politician is asked if he wants to expand government and have more government involvement in the lives of the American people, the answer is an emphatic "NO!"

And while we are at it, somebody inform the American people. They don't seem to be on board, yet.

Specter Uses Kemp's Death to Raise Funds

Arlen Specter (D-PA) went on the Sunday morning propaganda shows this past week and made an interesting statement.  He said that if it weren't for the Republican party, "Jack Kemp would be alive today."

He's backing up his words.

Specter has set up a website that will save many millions of lives.  It's called "Specterforthecure". He called this "a giant leap in turning research into cures."

Before you go there to make a donation, however, you should be aware of one thing. The money donated to the website doesn't go to cancer research. Not a penny of it. The website is a campaign fund raising website for Specter. 

You could be forgiven if you thought otherwise.

The question is, should Specter be forgiven for misleading the public and diverting funds that many people think will go to cancer research into his personal campaign fund? Instead of saving lives, it appears that Specter may be costing lives. But then again, this sort of thing is typical for Democrats ... even recent converts.

An Issue of Freedom of Speech

Isn't it amazing how freedom of speech works in this country?

If you are a liberal and are speaking "politically correctly," what you say is okay, regardless of how uninformed you may be, how false you may be, and regardless of whom it may hurt.  Just be sure you are a liberal.

If you are not a liberal and you say something that is true, then the party of tolerance will start cursing, attacking and smearing you in any way it can.

By now, unless you've been stranded on a deserted island for the past month, you already know that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, answered a question in a fairly polite and honest manner, but with a viewpoint that liberals don't like.  The smear campaign began.

This week, some rather innocent and innocuous photos of Miss Prejean have emerged on the internet. These are being disseminated in a further attempt to smear her and malign her views. It seems the left will stop at nothing to destroy someone who isn't on the "correct" side of an issue. These photos are not in bad taste. In fact, you can find more revealing photos on your local grocery store magazine rack within arms reach of any 12 year old walking by. But suddenly, Miss Prejean is somehow immoral and hypocritical for believing that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Well, as long as we are talking about hypocrisy, where are these same people when Obama, Hillary and all the other liberals who ran for president distanced themselves from the gay marriage issue? In fact, every candidate who ran (that I'm aware of) officially declared that they opposed same sex marriages.

Here is the difference: Miss Prejean is (1) not liberal (2) a Christian (3) pretty (4) lacking a microphone to fight back.  In other words, she is fair game. Others may enjoy freedom of speech. But the homosexual sodomite crowd will not be happy until Miss California has been dethroned and executed.

Afghan Government to Investigate U.S. Bombing

President Hamid Karzai ordered a probe Wednesday into allegations by local officials that more than 30 civilians were killed this week in a bombing by U.S.-led troops battling militants in western Afghanistan.

Karzai, currently in the United States, will raise the issue of civilian deaths with President Barack Obama, a statement from Karzai's office said. The two presidents were scheduled to hold their first face-to-face meeting later Wednesday.

Civilian deaths have caused increasing friction between the Afghan and U.S. governments, and Karzai has long pleaded with American officials to reduce the number of civilian casualties in their operations. U.S. and NATO officials accuse the Taliban militants of fighting from within civilian homes, thus putting them in danger.

Local officials said Tuesday that bombing runs called by U.S. forces killed dozens of civilians in Gerani village in Farah province's Bala Buluk district.

Personally, I think the Afghan government should insist on a harshly worded statement from the U.N.

Gore Lies to Congress

When Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn confronted Al Gore with his profiteering from global warming legislation at today’s House Energy and Environment Subcommittee hearing on the Waxman-Markey climate bill, Al Gore said that every penny he ever made from his business activities went into non-profit efforts. [See transcript below.]

That is a flat-out lie, according to this March 6, 2008 Bloomberg report that indicates that Al Gore invested $35 million of his own money in various for-profit endeavors.

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore left the White House seven years ago with less than $2 million in assets, including a Virginia home and the family farm in Tennessee. Now he’s making enough to put $35 million in hedge funds and other private partnerships.

Gore invested the money with Capricorn Investment Group LLC, a Palo Alto, California, firm that selects the private funds for clients and invests in makers of environmentally friendly products, according to a Feb. 1 securities filing. Capricorn was founded by billionaire Jeffrey Skoll, former president of EBay Inc. and an executive producer of Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary film on global warming.

Kudos to Rep. Blackburn for asking one of the “10 Questions for Al Gore” and exposing Gore as the fundamentally dishonest operator that he is.

Here’s the transcript from the April 24, 2009 exchange between Al Gore and Rep. Blackburn. Note that not only does Al Gore lie to Rep. Blackburn, he tries to turn the tables by implicitly accusing her of being anti-business.

Rep. Blackburn: …You talked a little about [that] people have to have trust in what you’re doing and I think you know that this bill is going to fundamentally change the way America works and it’s going to effect families. We’ve all talked about how it affects individuals and what it’s going to do to their budgets and… ah… what it’s going to do to jobs in this country. And given the magnitude of those changes, I think it’s really important that no suspicion or shadow fall on the foremost advocates of climate change legislation. So I wanted to give you the opportunity to kind of clear the air about your motives and to set the record straight about your motives for some of your former constituents. And I’ve got an article from [the] October 8 [2008] New York Times Magazine about a firm called Kleiner Perkins… a capital firm called Kleiner Perkins. Are you aware of that company?

Al Gore: Well, yes. I’m a partner at Kleiner Perkins.

Rep. Blackburn: So you’re a partner in Kleiner Perkins. OK. Now they have invested about a billion dollars in 40 companies that are going to benefit from cap-and-trade legislation. So is the legislation that we are discussing here today, is that something that you are going to personally benefit from?

Al Gore: [Sigh]… I believe that the transition to a green economy is good for our economy and good for all of us. And I have invested in it. But every penny that I have made, I have put right into a nonprofit, the Alliance for Climate Protection, to spread awareness of why we have to take on this challenge. And, Congresswoman, if you’re… if you believe that the reason I have been working on this issue for 30 years is because of greed, you don’t know me.

Rep. Blackburn: No, sir, I’m not making accusations. I’m asking questions that have been asked of me. And individuals… constituents… that were seeking a point of clarity. So I am asking…

Al Gore: I understand exactly what you’re doing Congresswoman. Everybody here does.

Rep. Blackburn: Well, are you willing to divest yourself of any profit. Does all of it go to a not-for-profit. Is it an education not-for-profit?

Al Gore: Every penny that I have made has gone to it. Every penny from the movie, the book… uh… from any investments from renewable energy. I’ve been willing to put my money where my mouth is. Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?

White House Refuses To Release Photos

The White House is refusing to release the controversial photos of Air Force One flying over the Manhattan skyline last week that triggered panic among New Yorkers and an internal review in the Obama administration.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that there was no need to release them.  (After all, middle eastern terrorists won't benefit at all by the release of these photos.)

"I've watched CNN," he said, noting the considerable coverage from amateur footage. "I didn't notice a lack of archival material from that flight."

Last week, the Obama administration sent an Air Force One backup plane to fly over lower Manhattan to capture the presidential plane with the Statue of Liberty in the background. The public was not notified in advance that there was no cause for alarm.

Some New Yorkers were reminded of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, sparking chaos as employees evacuated office buildings and emergency call centers were inundated.

Isn't It Ironic

Is anyone else wondering when the Mainstream Media might pick up on the irony of Obama getting sanctimonious about corporations who expose tax loopholes ... and sending Timothy "Turbo Tax" Geithner after them.

The administration today made a point of running down corporations who use LEGAL loopholes to reduce their tax burden. Meanwhile, most of the Obama administration simply chose to ILLEGALLY not pay taxes until it became a public issue.

Another Obama "Oops"

Obama hosted a party at the White House today for hispanics ... an early celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

Looking at his watch, which I presume has the day on it, Obama jokingly welcomed the crowd to the celebration of "Cinco de Quattro".  Even someone with a rudimentary understanding of spanish knows that Cinco de Mayo means the "Fifth of May."  Obama welcomed the guests to the "Fifth of the fourth."

I'm still looking for someone in the MainStreamMedia to report this gaffe in the same way they reported every mistake made by George W. Bush and Dan Quayle.

$50,000,000 To Relocate Gitmo Prisoners

Amid complaints that terror suspects could be brought to the U.S., house DEMOCRATS today rebuffed the Obama administration's request for $50 million to relocate prisoners from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The most obvious observation is that for the past 4+ years, Democrats have wanted Gitmo shut down. Now they're nervous because they are afraid that some terrorists might end up in their back yards.  Actually, they are more likely afraid that the terrorists might end up in the back yards of their constituents.

But the less obvious question is this:  How can the administration have an estimate of $50 million to move the prisoners when they have no idea what they are going to do with them?

Senator John Edwards (DEMOCRAT) Faces 10 Years

Former Senator John Edwards could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if an investigation into his campaign finances yields an indictment, a guilty verdict and the maximum penalty.

Feds a combing through Edward's 2008 campaign checkbook to find out if payments made to his former mistress, Reille Hunter, were illegal.  The campaign paid her more than $100,000 to Hunter, who gave birth in February 2008 to a daughter rumored to be the ex-senator's.

Political experts are predicting that while Edwards probably violated the law, the accounting shell game played using political action committees and a pretext for shooting a professional video, he will get off scot-free. Those in the know are saying that there is no question he shuttled money to his mistress to "take care of her." But proving it amid the accounting games that were played would be very near impossible for the investigators looking into the situation.

People are still angry at Edwards, not just for his infidelity, but also for claiming the mantle of his wife's illness as a part of the reason for his running for President in 2008, and then while he was running, engaging in this kind of conduct.

Swine Flu

The department of Homeland Security is taking time away from tracking down conservatives who are concerned about rising taxes and rising deficits to deal with the swine flu problem.  The epicenter of the problem has been in Mexico where a number of people have died.

In completely unrelated news, the Obama Administration has demonstrated this week that it wants to further open the borders between the US and Mexico. The administration is also denying any increase in violence in border states spilling over from the Mexican Drug lords.

Barack's Iraq

One of the complaints of the left leveled at George W. Bush during the height of the war in Iraq was that Bush went into Iraq with the idea that he could just throw a bunch of bombs into the country, send in the troops, overthrow Saddam and that would be the end of it.  The charge was that there was no real strategy going in and once there, no real strategy to get out.

While Obama has several potential Iraq's (Afghanistan being one of them), General Motors is shaping up to be a big problem. This has been brought to light with the big announcements made this week by GM. It is clear, at least to me, that General Motors is still making the same mistakes that has taken them down a 30 year path to get where they are today.

The administration's attitude seems to be that they can just throw money at GM without a plan, without accountability and without an "exit strategy", so to speak. And just as, month after month, the war in Iraq seemed to go on costing money with no end, keeping GM afloat has the same potential. 

If that were Obama's only challenge, we could probably live with it. It isn't, of course. As I said, there are several other problems that have the potential to become more "Iraqs" for Obama. We still have the situation in Iraq which seems to be deteriorating, the situation in Afghanistan, which is also worsening, nukes in Pakistan which the Taliban is getting closer to, North Korea getting ready to launch missiles, escalating violence spilling over from Mexico, pirates in Somalia ... and I haven't even mentioned the economy.

The reason that these have to potential to become big problems is that it seems the Administration has no real strategy for dealing with any of these problem.

Afghanistan may be the exception.  Obama seems to have committed to dealing with Afghanistan. We'll see whether he has the stomach to stick it out.

When it comes to the other issues, though, it appears Obama is burying his head in the sand.  Ignore it and maybe it will go away. 

For all the complaints leveled by the left about how Bush was dealing with world problems, at least he was dealing with them.
