Universal Health SCare: A Path To Euthanizing the Elderly

Here's something that should raise a red flag to all Americans, but especially seniors.. Section 1233 of H.R. 3200, titled "Advanced Care Planning Consultation," requires senior citizens to meet at least once every 5 years with a doctor or nurse practitioner to discuss dying with dignity.

The section requires that they talk to their doctor, not a lawyer, about living wills, durable healthcare powers of attorney, hospice, etc. Given the progressive intelligentsia already being on the record in favor of euthanizing the elderly, it is no small leap to see where the Democrats are headed with this.

Those 5 year counseling sessions that the elderly are supposed to attend can occur more frequently when a person has a chronic or terminal disease.

Page 428:

17 "(B) An advance care planning consultation with respect to an individual may be conducted more frequently than provided under paragraph (1) if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual, including diagnosis of a chronic, progressive, life-limiting disease, a life-threatening or terminal diagnosis or life-threatening injury.

Some bureaucrat will recommend the government healthcare system cut my middle finger off after two of these mandatory counseling sessions.

The vague stipulate "life-limiting disease" almost requires politically based abuse, doesn't it? "No treatment for you, you donated to the other side, shows a life limitation."

Forgot to mention under the new regulations, Obama/Pelosi restrict private insurance provision. Government control of health care payment is control of health care provision. Health care can be denied altogether if the patient does not have a politically correct disease. Can you say "death sentence?"

Truth is I am not against this in general.

My problems are the obvious ones, requiring a patient to do it and the real potential for abuse.

I would even be willing, as a health care provider, to be mandated to ask a patient about it, as long as they have the right to refuse to answer.

It's one of those provisions that is based in sound practice (discussing living wills with your provider) that the government gets their hands on and screws up completely.

This is just one of many examples of why the federal government needs to stay out of the health care business. Unfortunately, that ship sailed in November...

I hadn't heard about HR 3200. Thanks for posting about it. Your post goes along with mine tonight regarding progressives and eugenics...

As Bob Qat said, "politically correct disease" seems to be on the horizon.

Very scary times, IMHO. Thank God HE is in control of this mess.
